What is liposuction?
Liposuction, also known as Lipoplasty, is a surgical procedure that is designed to remove fat from unwanted areas such as thighs, hips, abdomen, buttocks, arms, neck, etc. Liposuction is a plastic surgery technique meant to remove excess fat under the skin by suction. Other names for liposuction include lipoplasty and body contouring.
Liposuction is a procedure to remove excess fat in unwanted areas that are not responding to diet or exercise. Liposuction surgery is used to slim thighs, flatten the abdomen, and improve contour in areas such as the hips, flanks, back and knees. It is also used to remove fat from a male chest.
The Best Liposuction Technique
The most popular technique for liposuction is the Tumescent Technique. It involves infiltration of the desired area with a physiological salt solution with epinephrine. This infiltration minimizes bruising, pain and discomfort.
Why should I consider liposuction and how risky is the procedure?
You may consider liposuction when you have too much fat in specific areas of your body. Liposuction reduces the number of fat cells in a specific area. As with any surgery, liposuction carries some risks. During the preliminary consultation, doctor Shahar will discuss the benefits and risks of undergoing a liposuction plastic surgery procedure.
Does liposuction help with belly fat?
Absolutely! Liposuction may help you get rid of muffin tops, love handles, and other pockets of fat across your body. It is still recommended to exercise regularly after undergoing a liposuction surgery.
Are lipo results permanent?
Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from specific areas treated. Nonetheless, patients should maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle post-op. Patients should also exercise regularly to avoid gaining weight and fat back.
How much fat can be extracted with liposuction?
Doctor Shahar follows plastic surgery guidelines that set a maximum extraction limit of 11 pounds of fat removed. This is true for all patients, regardless of variations in weight or body fat status. Doctor Shahar also uses your Body Mass Index (BMI) to determine how much fat can be extracted safely.
Is liposuction better than a tummy tuck?
Liposuction is less invasive than a tummy tuck. Tummy tucks usually involves longer recovery times, potential scarring and general anesthesia. Though, tummy tucks and Liposuctions are both amazing body contouring procedures, Doctor Shahar will determine the best course of action depending on what needs to be corrected. Liposuctions are perfect when the patient does not suffer from excess skin or loose muscles. Liposuctions won’t eliminate extra skin issues, stretch marks or loose muscle tissue. Liposuction only removes fat.
Is Liposuction painful?
Most patients don’t experience a lot of pain. You should still expect some as well as minor swelling and potential bruising. Doctor Shahar may prescribe medication to ease the pain and will prescribe antibiotics to prevent infections.
How much is liposuction?
Liposuction, or the surgical removal of fat deposits, is one of the most common plastic surgery treatments performed today. The costs of liposuction varies depending on which part or parts of your body you choose to treat. It also depends on the size of the areas that need to be treated, as well as the specific techniques used.
What precautions should I take before Liposuction?
Before the liposuction procedure, you’ll discuss with Doctor Shahar what to expect from the liposuction surgery. Doctor Shahar will review your medical history, past medical conditions, food supplements and medication you may be taking on a regular basis. Doctor Shahar may request you stop certain medications a few weeks before you undergo the liposuction procedure (NSAIDS, blood thinners…).
Doctor Shahar will select the appropriate technique based on the area of your body and if you had liposuction done in the past.
What happens during the liposuction procedure?
Some liposuction surgeries only require local anesthesia (numbing sensation in a specific part of the body). Other liposuctions may require general anesthesia. Doctor Shahar will discuss anesthesia prior to performing the procedure.
What should I expect after the liposuction procedure?
After liposuction, Doctor Shahar may install temporary drains to enable fluid drainage and promote faster recovery. Doctor Shahar can prescribe compression garments to help reduce swelling.
How long is the recovery time for liposuction procedures?
It usually takes around two to three weeks to fully recover from a liposuction procedure. Recovery times depend mostly on the area treated and the volume of fat extracted. A small surface treated may allow you to wait only a few days before returning to work. Nevertheless, you will need a few weeks to resume normal activities and exercise. Doctor Shahar will give you any post-op advice and tips he has.
